The Open Door volunteer team currently consists of about 25 Christians of different backgrounds and ages. We come from different cities and professions, together we form a team that wants to help each other and get to know each other. Our employees are very important and indicate where and how much they want to be deployed in this social operation. Volunteers are people who are committed to the non-profit organization for both short and longer terms.

We are based in Brussels and work in Brussels. At the moment we are mainly focused on people who live or stay in and around the North Station. We also hope to offer an open door to the lonely, homeless or poor who live around our location on Haachtsesteenweg in Schaerbeek. As a local operation, we have a national following with supporters and donors from all over the country.

We originated from a group of Christians who wanted to work for the less fortunate in their own environment. Everything started small about 10 years ago, but the needs in our area have certainly not diminished and our operation has continued to grow to what we are today. The type of help we offer has changed, the people we help change, but… our vision and passion is always the same. We are a clearly Christian operation and we do not hide that in any way. We know very well that our choice as Christians to commit ourselves to our environment will not be warmly received by everyone and we know that we are certainly not a better ‘kind’ of people than anyone else in the rest of the world. That is not the focus of our operation, we do not seek appreciation from people. We love people and want to do our best to help people move forward or back on their path wherever we can and despite our limitations.

Currently, part of our volunteer team consists of people who were previously visitors and now serve very loyally as volunteers. Every Friday there is soup with a hint of Iran and a translation with a Moroccan accent! Great, right!
