Your own shelter

The project

A new place for temporary shelter

Open Deur vzw wants to strengthen its existing shelter operation with its own house in Schaarbeek. A warm, safe place where people who temporarily do not have a suitable place to live can go for peace, human closeness and support with their next step.

With your support, we will help make this project a reality step by step.

Why have your own shelter?

Open Deur has been offering temporary shelter in a rented apartment in Evere for several years. The apartment has room for about ten people, who usually stay there for about two weeks. Such a temporary stay can mean a lot to someone who has nowhere to go.

Yet the current situation has its limitations. The apartment is in less good condition and is located away from our operations in Schaarbeek. Moreover, as tenants we remain dependent on circumstances over which we have little influence. Having your own house would change that.

The aim is not primarily to accommodate more people, but to make the shelter we already offer today safer, more humane and more future-proof.

The house

A new home base in Schaerbeek

We have found a suitable home at Vandeweyerstraat 81, about a ten-minute walk from the Bethel Church.

The characteristic Brussels city house has a ground floor, two upper floors and a basement. It offers space for temporary shelter, meeting and guidance.

The building has a lot of potential, but still requires adjustments before it can be safely put into use.

Our plans for the house

Space for reception and meeting

The three floors offer space for both care and guidance, and supervision by a living space coordinator who can be involved in the daily operations.

THE PROJECT IN FIGURES

This is how we finance the shelter

Thanks to previous donations and accumulated resources, Open Deur can already finance a large part of the purchase.

The additional funds are intended for the remaining purchase amount and purchase costs, necessary renovations and the maintenance of a financial reserve.

We are looking for support through donations, contributions from churches and organizations, personal loans and possibly additional financing.

With your support we will help make this project a reality.
